Showcase your choreography by capturing it at its best – with the expertise that only a dance videographer can provide
With a background in dance, filming dance shows isn’t just my passion – it’s a speciality. Very few film makers are fluent in the language of dance, so if you’re looking for your show to be filmed in a way that not just the public, but dancers can appreciate as well, Digital Dave should be at the top of your list!
Why use Digital Dave?
- Over a decade of filming dance at Sadler’s Wells, the world-class venue for dance
- Extensive experience working in a theatre, from small studios to large-scale auditoriums
- Multiple angle filming
- Receive professionally edited crisp, sharp, focused performance footage you can use for promotion, social media and trailers
- Quick turnaround within ten days – the option to review your footage while the performance still feels fresh!
Multiple angle filming set ups
Digital Dave will film your show from a minimum of two angles – one wide, to cover the width of the stage, and one telephoto, to capture the expression of your performers. Whatever the scope and scale of your show, there’s a solution to fit your vision and budget.
Watch: Dickson Mbi – Enowate – Two Angles, Solo Performance
Standard setup is two angles, where a wide angle is captured (wing to wing, with lighting rig in-shot) cutting to a zoomed mid to close-up shot to capture the upper body and full facial expressions.
Perfect for:
- Solo and ensemble shows with leading characters
- Both large and small venues
Watch: Fireball Sessions with Titan Collective – Four Angles
With enough cameras and collaboration, and even with a live audience, it is also possible to get full coverage of your show combining still and moving cameras. The following is possible with cabaret setups and a thorough risk assessment. Additional camera operation by Leroy Kanyowa.
Perfect for:
- Getting a fully immersive feeling of the performance
- Live cabaret-style shows to showcase what it’s like with an audience
- Performances with no seating or bleachers in situ.
Watch: Eleesha Drennan – Four Cameras, Live/Rehearsal Mix
It’s possible, if your choreography is set to an approximate timecode, to film additional close-up angles during your dress rehearsal to double the amount of camera coverage and get shots that would otherwise be impossible during live show filming.
Perfect for:
- Tightly choreographed performances to highlight details from different perspectives
- More complete coverage of your show, with higher production values
- Better suited for online broadcasts and replays.
Did you know? Digital Dave is also a theatre production photographer, so your show can benefit from sharp, strong visuals to help promote future performances. If you want people to know just how good you are, shout about it by requesting audience reactions and vox pops filming after the show. Or if you’re still in the process of creating something big, why not see how having a behind-the-scenes videographer can help you?
